How to Tell if You Are Entering Menopause

By Kate Bracy, RN, NP, About.com Guide to Menopause

As women move into their forties, and sometimes earlier, many begin to have symptoms that come with declining estrogen levels. Timing of Menopause

Knowing general information on when it comes, how long it lasts, and (perhaps most importantly) when you can look forward to those hot flashes ending can help you get a handle on this often puzzling phase of your life.

Symptoms of Menopause

There are many symptoms of menopause that most women will experience at one time or another. While each woman's experience is of course unique, these common threads can help you know what to expect and be on the lookout for.

When to Check With Your Doctor

Are heart palpitations serious? How heavy do your periods have to be before you should worry? Knowing when to see your healtcare provider can help you sort out normal hormone-related symptoms from serious medical conditions. Of course, you know your body best. Make an appointment to see your doctor if you are worried about something that "just doesn't feel right."
