Definition: Naturally occurring plant substances found in many brightly colored fruits and vegetables such as cherries, oranges, other citrus fruits, grapes, leafy vegetables, wine, and some types of red clover. Bioflavonoids seem to enhance the activity of vitamin C and are being studied for the treatment of a number of conditions, including the control of bleeding, hemorrhoids, varicose veins, and some symptoms of menopause.

Examples: Susan began eating vegetables that were brightly colored so that she would have more bioflavonoids in her diet.
