Fibroid Tumor

Definition: Benign growths of muscle cells that develop within or on the uterine wall. They occur in 30-40% of women over age 40, and are not usually removed unless they are causing symptoms (e.g. heavy bleeding) that interfere with a woman's normal activities.
Pronunciation: FIE-broyd TOO-mer
Also Known As: Fibroids
Examples: She noticed that her periods were much heavier after she developed fibroid tumors.
