Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)

Definition: Therapy consisting of estrogen or a combination of estrogen and progestin designed to replace the loss of these hormones in menopause. Hormone therapy is used to combat the effects of hormone deficiencies including bone loss, vaginal atrophy, hot flashes, and other menopausal conditions.
Also Known As: hormone therapy (HT), estrogen therapy (ET), estrogen replacement therapy (ERT), menopause hormone therapy (MHT)
Examples: She and her doctor discussed whether HRT was worth a try, given her risk factors for osteoporosis.
