Definition: A night sweat is a hot flash or menopause flush that happens at night, usually during sleep. It is a vasomotor event that results in a warm flushed feeling and drenching perspiration. Night sweats can cause insomnia, and severe night sweats can decrease the quality of life for a menopausal woman.
Also Known As: sleep hyperhydrosis, nocternal hot flash, sweats
Examples: When she had night sweats she couldn't get back to sleep, and would be tired all day as a result.
