Definition: A female sex hormone, produced in largest amounts during and after ovulation that prepares the uterus for the implantation of a fertilized egg. Progesterone is sometimes used alone or combined with estrogen to treat the symptoms of menopause.
Pronunciation: proh-JEST-er-ohn
Examples: She decided to try a combination hormone therapy of both estrogen and progesterone because her menopause symptoms were so severe.
