Definition: The unpredictable and involuntary loss of urine caused by weakened sphincter muscles (the muscles that surround the urethra) and often triggered by an event such as a sneeze or cough.
Also Known As: Stress incontinence, urine leakage
Examples: After menopause stress urinary incontinence is more common because the tissues around the urethra are not as flexible and the pelvic floor muscles are often weakened.
