Which Menopause Treatments are Right for You?
By Kate Bracy, RN, NP, About.com Guide to Menopause
There are many ways to treat menopause symptoms, and the extent of your symptoms, your health, and even your personal preferences can factor into determining which approaches are right for you.
Hormone Therapy
Menopause hormone therapy, what used to be called "hormone replacement therapy," can be extremely effective for managing menopausal symptoms. But research has shown that there are risks with hormone therapy that need to be considered.
Medications
Prescription medications and other medical treatments can ease the discomfort of many menopausal symptoms. Like any drug, each option brings risks and benefits that you need to speak with your healthcare provider about when choosing an approach.
Alternative Treatments
Many women want to manage menopause with "natural" or "alternative" remedies, rather than prescription medications. What are the options? Are they safe? Do they work? Do your homework, and speak with your doctor, before trying one.
